Lesson 1: Series Overview and Biography
JamPlay introduces Nashville session player Guthrie Trapp! In this first segment, Guthrie talks a little about his influences, style, and how his upbringing influenced his playing. He also provides an overview of what he'll be teaching in his series.
Lesson 2: Basic Rhythm Types
To get his lesson series off the ground, Guthrie provides a lesson on the basic rhythm types and picking techniques he utilizes. He'll build on these topics and techniques as his series progresses.
Lesson 3: Country Style Rhythms
Now that Guthrie has discussed foundational rhythm playing, he hops on over to the country side of things. In this lesson, Guthrie discusses how he uses Jimi Hendrix as an influence to create swinging country rhythms that include chicken pickin'.
Lesson 4: Blues and Swing Rhythms
Continuing with his rhythm style studies, Guthrie Trapp provides a lesson on some of the swing and blues styles that he uses in his session playing. He discusses chord voicings and easy ways to get around the neck.
Lesson 5: Funk Ideas
In the fifth lesson of his artist series, Guthrie Trapp detours a little and talks about fundamental funk ideas. Specifically, he talks about rhythmic features of the genre and how he attacks them.
Lesson 6: Introduction to Hybrid Technique and Chicken Pickin'
In lesson six of his artist series, Guthrie begins an in depth discussion of the hybrid picking style. This technique forms the foundation for many of the rhythm and lead parts associated with the Nashville sound. Guthrie provides an exercise meant to increase your accuracy and speed. He also takes a brief look at the chicken pickin' style that he'll be covering in more detail later.
Lesson 7: Double Stop Ideas
Guthrie is back with another Nashville style lesson in his artist series. In this lesson, he takes a lick-based approach to double stop ideas and a few country kick-offs.
Lesson 8: Open String Ideas
One of the staples of the Nashville sound is the use of open ringing strings in licks. In lesson eight, Guthrie discusses open string ideas and demonstrates several licks to get you started.
Lesson 9: Memphis Style Licks
The Memphis style borrows heavily from the soul and R&B genres. In this lesson, Guthrie covers some typical licks you'll find in this style and discusses how to translate these licks across the fingerboard.
Lesson 10: Playing Up the Neck
It's fairly easy to get lost on the fretboard when trying to play low or high. Using familiar chord shapes, Guthrie discusses how you can orient yourself on the fretboard and keep from getting lost. This opens up additional rhythmic and solo opportunities for you.
Lesson 11: Steel Bend Basics
In lesson 11 of his artist series, Guthrie Trapp explains how to play steel type bends on the guitar. He discusses the techniques and provides some exercises that will help you bend in tune.
Lesson 12: Advanced Country Bending
Now that Guthrie has provided information on basic country bending and lap steel style bends, he takes that knowledge to the next step. In this lesson, Guthrie covers more flair and technique that you can add to your country bending. He also discusses bending behind the nut in more detail.
Lesson 13: Country Kick-offs
Nashville session player Guthrie Trapp is back with a look at several country kick-offs that you can use in your playing. These phrases happen shortly after the beginning of traditional country tunes and help "kick off" the song.
Lesson 14: Improvising and Soloing
Guthrie Trapp returns to his artist series with a look at how he tackles improvisation and solos on the guitar.
Lesson 15: Introduction to Solo Ideas
Guthrie Trapp is back with a first look at how he approaches soloing. He calls this a "hillbilly jazz" approach that tends to outline chord tones without the need for much theoretical knowledge.
Lesson 16: Nashville Session Playing
In this artist lecture, Guthrie Trapp talks about the Nashville session scene and what it takes to cut it as a session musician. He discusses how gigs are pulled together and some of the knowledge you'll need as a musician in order to be successful.

Guthrie Trapp is back with a short lecture on how he has his rig setup, what gear he uses and what's necessary to be a successful Nashville session player.
Lesson 18: Practical Application to Soloing
Now that you've learned some of the tricks Guthrie uses in his solos, it's time to apply what you've learned. In this lesson, Guthrie provides a solo over a rhythm track and discusses how he created the solo.
Lesson 19: Country / Funk Soloing
Guthrie Trapp is back with another practical solo application. This time he's playing over a country groove with a bit of funk in there as well.
Lesson 20: Funk Soloing
Guthrie Trapp touched on some funk soloing in his previous lesson. For this one, he's taking a look at the funk genre specifically. He also discusses how to build a solo and some things to think about to keep it memorable.
Lesson 21: Soulful Soloing
Guthrie is back with another take on soloing over a comping pattern. In this lesson, he takes a look at more soulful playing and the use of minor tonalities.
Lesson 22: Speed Soloing
For Guthrie Trapp's next demonstration on solo technique, he discusses how he gets around the neck when the underlying track requires a fast paced solo.
Lesson 23: Soloing in a Minor Key
To wrap up his solo technique lessons and the series, Guthrie takes a look at his approach to soloing in minor keys.
